Six Ways to Get Energized in the Morning

There are some people who, no matter how much restful sleep they get, have a hard time feeling energized in the morning. A “morning person” is someone who practically jumps out of bed in the morning, ready to tackle the day. Many of us are not fortunate to be naturally chipper after waking up. We pull the blanket up over our heads and hit the snooze as many times as we can. While you may never be a person who loves mornings, there are some techniques that should make your mornings a little easier.

1. Focus on the good things that await you

Most people aren’t excited about getting up for work or school, but usually there is at least one thing in your day that’s sure to bring you joy.

2.  Open the curtains

It is much harder to get up in the morning when your room is still dark. The natural light from the sun triggers your brain to start moving.

3. Have a big glass of water

Most people wake up dehydrated after not having any water for 6-8 hours. Dehydration adds to your sleepiness. It’s also important you drink water before any coffee or tea.

4. Brush your teeth with peppermint toothpaste and use peppermint mouthwash

You body’s trigeminal nerve is stimulated by the smell of peppermint which gives you a needed boost of energy.

5. Read a little bit

Get your brain going by engaging it with some reading in the morning. It’s best to read about a topic that interests you and distracts you from how tired you may be feeling.

6. Get moving

As soon as you get out of bed you should stretch because it will help with circulation and make you feel more energized. You can also get your heart rate up by jogging in place or doing some jumping jacks.
