  1. Your mattress doesn't have to be falling apart for it to require replacement. If you are tossing and turning at night and not getting the deep sleep you need, it may be due to an overly worn mattress set. The Better Sleep Council suggests checking your mattress twice a year for comfort and support. If the cover on your mattress is torn or if your mattress is excessively sagging, you definitely need to replace your sleep set. You may need to replace your mattress if you find it less comfortable than when it was new or if it is over 10 years old. If you have recently moved and have more room in your master bedroom, you may also want to consider moving up to a larger size mattress. A well appointed sleep shop with thoroughly trained comfort consultants can help you determine if you need a new mattress and what type of mattress will best suit your individual needs. When looking at new mattresses, be sure to lie down and try a few different models. See if you find something that is more comfortable than your current mattress and collect information about current innovations in the mattress industry. Above all, don't be afraid to ask questions. Click on the 'How To Buy A Mattress' link for more information.
  2. The box spring is an integral part of any mattress set. Some box springs are more rigid and serve primarily as a riser, while the more advanced box springs feature torsion modules that shock absorb and help extend mattress life. It is often found that the real cause of an uncomfortable mattress is a defective or sagging box spring. If your mattress and box spring are both 15 years old, you should strongly consider replacing both pieces when buying a new sleep set. Newer mattresses, especially one-sided products, are designed to work specifically with their corresponding box spring. Realize that with few exceptions, mattress manufacturers do not offer a warranty when purchasing a mattress without a box spring. Our comfort consultants will be happy to help you determine if you need to replace your entire sleep set, or just your mattress.
  3. At Mattress Mart we are happy to split up sets and offer you only the products you need. Just be sure that you are not voiding you warranty by purchasing a single piece and that you are replacing all of the defective components within your sleep set.
  4. A sagging mattress may be a sign of a worn out sleep set. However, a sagging mattress may also be caused by an unsupportive bed frame or the sagging may simply be the normal body impressions formed in a mattress. Newer mattress sets are designed to show some degree of body impressions, usually with indentations of up to 1-1/2" considered normal. Speaking with one of our comfort consultants for a few minutes should be all that is necessary to determine what is actually wrong with your mattress set. We are often able to help our customers keep their existing bed set by simply replacing their bed frame.
  5. Here are the top ten tips from the Better Sleep Council on how to get better sleep: Maintain a regular sleeping schedule; Establish a regular bedtime routine; Create a sleep-conducive environment in your bedroom; Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows; Remove distractions such as televisions from your bedroom; Finish eating 2-3 hours before bedtime; Exercise regularly; Avoid nicotine; Avoid caffeine; Avoid alcohol close to bedtime.
  6. At Mattress Mart we offer a no-pressure shopping environment. You will never be harassed by rude or aggressive salespeople at our sleep centers.
