The Therapedic BackSense Potomac Firm is a firmer step up in the value-minded Therapedic lineup. It is designed for people who want a hard-on-top, supportive mattress without moving into premium or heavy-duty pricing.
Compared with the Braeside Firm, the Potomac Firm feels more robust and more substantial. It is a good option for shoppers who like a firm bed, want a cleaner and stronger feel than the most basic entry-level models, and still want to keep the purchase practical.
The Potomac Firm is firm. It is not a cushion-firm mattress and it is not trying to be plush. It is designed for sleepers who want to sleep more on top of the mattress, with very little sink.
That makes it a strong option for back sleepers, stomach sleepers, RV use, second bedrooms, and anyone who says they want a mattress that feels hard or very supportive. Also, this is the perfect base firm feel if you intend on adding a thick, foam topper of any sort.
The Potomac Firm uses a firm comfort package over a 13-gauge innerspring support system. The current product page lists a natural fire barrier, polyurethane quilt foam, a gel visco-elastic memory foam lumbar layer, and a heavy-density polyurethane support foam layer.
The goal with this firm is not deep pressure relief. The goal is a firm, stable surface with enough cushioning to keep the mattress usable for everyday sleep.
The Potomac Firm uses a 13-gauge VertiCoil™ spring system. The listed spring counts are:
The Potomac Firm is for customers who know they want firm. It is a good middle step between the basic value models and the more specialized firm mattresses. It is not as heavily built as the TheraLuxe HD Jackson, but for the price, it gives a strong, supportive feel that works well in many practical bedrooms.
