The Capitol Bedding Copper Harbor (Plush) Pillowtop

Overview

Copper Harbor Plush Pillowtop is the softest offering in this Capitol Bedding collection, built for sleepers who truly want to sink into a plush, “cloud-like” surface without giving up underlying structure. The comfort package combines ultra-premium foams, including 2.25 lb Serene® foam and multiple gel foams, with a Bolsa-style wrapped coil system and Quantum Edge® perimeter, so the mattress feels luxuriously soft on top while still holding you up and keeping the edges usable. Handcrafted in Grand Ledge, Michigan, it’s a soft bed that’s designed to last longer than the typical big-brand pillowtop.

Feel & Best For

Overall feel: very soft / plush pillowtop — deep cushioning with noticeable underlying support.

Best for:

Side sleepers and plush seekers who want maximum pressure relief at the shoulders and hips, and back sleepers who specifically like a soft, contouring feel.

Also works for: lighter- to average-weight sleepers who find most mattresses too firm and want a more indulgent top without moving to memory foam.

Not ideal for: most stomach sleepers or anyone looking for a genuinely firm surface; they’re usually better suited to Suttons Bay Cushion Firm, Suttons Bay Plush, or Superior Mornings.

Key construction & materials

Quilted cover with a Versare inner panel over a Milliken silica-based fire barrier for a soft, breathable top and non-fiberglass FR protection.

.75″ 1.2 lb 30 ILD quilt foam for initial softness without a thick, mushy feel.

1.5″ 2.25 lb 12 ILD self-adjusting Serene® foam in the quilt for deep, pressure-relieving plushness that outperforms typical low-density foams.

1″ 1.5 lb 10 ILD gel foam in the quilt to add even more softness and a cooler, more breathable surface.

1.5″ 1.8 lb 32 ILD convoluted foam in the comfort layers for firmer underlying support, added airflow, and a smoother transition into the coil unit.

1″ 1.8 lb 20 ILD latex and copper-infused polyurethane foam for a bit of buoyant response, thermal conductivity, and additional pressure relief beneath the primary comfort layers.

Bolsa-style wrapped coil system with Quantum Edge® support for better edge stability, reduced roll-off, and long-term structural integrity in a very plush build.

All foams are certified and sourced as part of Capitol’s high-density, long-life foam program, using 1.8–2.5 lb foams that retain firmness far better than typical 1.0–1.5 lb upholstery foams.

The Capitol Bedding Difference

For more than 50 years, Capitol Bedding has been crafting high-quality mattresses with a clear focus: durable, comfortable sleep that stands the test of time. Long before “no-flip” mattresses became the norm, Capitol committed to building one-sided designs using truly premium materials—especially high-density foams engineered to keep their feel and support for years, not just months.

That commitment led to the use of foams like P2536 (2.5 lb density, 36 ILD), P2560 (2.5 lb, 60 ILD), and P2426 (2.4 lb, 26 ILD), each chosen for a specific role in comfort and support. Instead of relying on the 1.0–1.5 lb foams commonly found in many mass-market mattresses, Capitol builds with 1.8 lb, 2.4 lb, and 2.5 lb foams that are designed to break down far more slowly and maintain their original feel much longer.

Key Benefits of Capitol’s High-Density Foam

  • High-Density Foam = Longer Life
Higher-density foams hold their shape and support significantly better over time than standard low-density foams, helping the mattress feel “new” for more years.

  • Purpose-Built Foam Types

    • P2536 (2.5 lb, 36 ILD): Focused on durability and everyday support.

    • P2560 (2.5 lb, 60 ILD): Firmer, more supportive feel for heavier use and stronger lumbar support.

    • P2426 (2.4 lb, 26 ILD): Softer, more cushioning comfort where pressure relief is needed.

  • Proven Firmness Retention
Over a 10-year span, Capitol’s typical foam choices retain firmness far better than commodity foams:

    • 2.5 lb foam: about 8% firmness loss

    • 2.4 lb foam: about 9% firmness loss

    • 1.8 lb foam: about 20% firmness loss
Compare that to lower-density foams often used elsewhere:

    • 1.2 lb foam: about 38% firmness loss

    • 1.0 lb foam: about 42% firmness loss

  • Premium, U.S.-Made Materials
Capitol sources its foams from Future Foam, a leading family-owned U.S. producer of Flexible Polyurethane Foams (FPF), chosen for consistent quality, performance, and longevity.

While these premium materials cost more to build with, Capitol Bedding believes that better foam makes better mattresses—and better mattresses make for better sleep. The result is a line of products designed to feel supportive and comfortable for years, not just in the showroom, giving you a bed that truly earns its place in your home.
