Capitol Bedding Ludington Comfort Plush

A value-minded Michigan-made mattress with a softer feel

The Ludington Comfort Plush is a simple, useful Capitol Bedding mattress for shoppers who want comfort, local manufacturing, and a sensible price. It is not trying to be the most technical bed in the store. It is trying to be a good mattress at a fair number.

That matters because not every customer needs a premium mattress. Sometimes the right choice is the bed that feels good, is built properly, and fits the budget.

Comfort and feel

The Ludington has a comfort-plush feel. It is softer than a firm value mattress, but not as deep or cushioned as Capitol’s larger pillowtop models.

It is a good choice for people who want a softer surface without getting into a taller or more expensive mattress.

Best for

  • Value-minded shoppers
  • Guest rooms
  • Lighter sleepers
  • Side sleepers who do not need a thick pillowtop
  • Customers who want a softer Michigan-made mattress
  • People who want an affordable adult mattress

Construction highlights

  • Quilted cover
  • Milliken silica-based fire barrier
  • Multiple foam comfort layers
  • Convoluted foam transition layer
  • High-density base foam
  • Handcrafted in Grand Ledge, Michigan
  • Adjustable-base compatible

Support system

The Ludington uses a Caliber encapsulated coil unit. This gives the mattress a more responsive, familiar feel than an all-foam bed and helps keep the mattress from feeling too soft underneath.

The coil unit gives the Ludington a better foundation for everyday use than many ultra-basic value mattresses.

Our take

The Capitol Difference

For over 50 years Capitol Bedding has been crafting high-quality mattresses rooted in the commitment to providing durable, comfortable sleep solutions. Their innovative approach began with the decision to create a one-sided, no-flip mattress using top-tier materials, particularly high-density foam. This led to the adoption of premium foams like ‘P2536’ (2.5lb density, 36ILD (Initial Load Deflection)), ‘P2560’ (2.5lb 60ILD), and ‘P2426′(2.4lb 26ILD), each tailored to deliver different levels of support and comfort. These materials have stood the test of time, ensuring Capitol Bedding’s products remain among the most resilient and comfortable on the market.

What sets Capitol Bedding apart is their dedication to using higher density foams that outperform the industry standard. Unlike most mattresses that lose their firmness and support over time, Capitol Bedding’s designs use 1.8lb, 2.4 lb and 2.5 lb foams, which experience significantly less firmness loss even after years of use. Their foams, sourced from Future Foam, one of the top producers in the U.S., are chosen for their exceptional quality and longevity, contributing to a mattress that retains its original feel and support far longer than most.

Key Benefits:

  • High-Density Foam:
    • Lasts longer and maintains support better than standard foams.
  • Foam Types:
    • P2536 (durability), P2560 (firm feel), P2426 (soft feel).
  • Firmness Retention:
    • 2.5 lb foam: 8% firmness loss after 10 years.
    • 2.4 lb foam: 9% firmness loss after 10 years.
    • 1.8 lb foam : 20% firmness loss. (1.5lb and below are typically used in most other manufacturer’s beds)
  • Compared to:
    • 1.2 lb foam: 38% firmness loss.
    • 1.0 lb foam: 42% firmness loss.
  • Premium Materials:
    • Sourced from Future Foam, a top family-owned U.S. producer of Flexible Polyurethane Foams.

While the use of these premium materials comes at a higher cost, Capitol Bedding believes that better foam makes better, and longer lasting, mattresses—and better mattresses lead to better sleep. Their investment in high-density foam ensures that every customer experiences a durable, supportive mattress that enhances the quality of their sleep for years to come.
