Therapedic Ambrose

The Ambrose is our basic “kid bed” in the BackSense line. It’s a thinner mattress with simple comfort foams over a real innerspring, so kids and lighter sleepers get proper support without a lot of extra height or cost. We use it most often on bunk beds, trundles, RV’s and starter beds where you want something better than a cheap promo mattress, but you’re not trying to build a high-end adult sleep setup.

Therapedic BackSense Ambrose

Overview / description
The BackSense Ambrose is our entry-level mattress, and we mainly treat it as a kid bed or light-use option. It has a thinner profile and a straightforward construction: basic quilt foams on top, a firm insulator, and a traditional innerspring core for support. It’s a clear step up from the “mattress-in-a-box for $99” type products, but it’s not meant to compete with the thicker, more cushioned models in the rest of our lineup. If you need something decent for a child’s room, bunk, trundle, RV or occasional guest space and don’t want to overspend, this is where we start.

Best for

  • Kids and younger teens who don’t need a thick, heavy-duty mattress yet

  • Bunk beds, trundle beds, daybeds, and tight spaces where height matters

  • Occasional-use guest rooms, lake cabins, or spare rooms on a budget

  • Not our first choice as an every-night mattress for larger or heavier adults

Key features

  • Simple, kid-friendly build: basic comfort foams over a supportive innerspring

  • Thinner profile that fits safely in many bunk and loft-bed rails

  • Feels “firm with a bit of cushion” rather than super soft or squishy

  • A good starting point if you want a real mattress without jumping into mid-range prices

Construction & specs

  • Comfort & quilt layers

    • Quilted stretch-knit cover with a thin layer of soft fiber for a smoother surface

    • Modest amount of polyurethane quilt foam for a bit of cushion without making the bed thick or mushy

  • Transition / upholstery

    • Simple polyurethane upholstery pad over the springs to even out the feel

    • Firm insulator layer to help protect the foams from the coils underneath

  • Support system

    • Pocketed innerspring unit

    • Built to feel stable for kids and lighter sleepers without a lot of motion transfer for the size/price

  • Profile / sizes

    • Thinner mattress height (in the10″ range)

    • Common kid and guest sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen

  • Foundation & compatibility

    • Works on standard rigid foundations, bunkie boards, or slatted bunk frames with proper spacing

    • Not designed with adjustable bases in mind; this one is more for simple bed frames and bunks
